WHAT IS YOGURT?
Is produced by the bacterial fermentation of milk. Yogurt can be made from all kinds of milk including: Cow, water buffalo, goats, ewes, mares, camels and yaks.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF YOGURT
Balkan style yogurt
Is poured into containers and allowed to ferment, without stirring. This yogurt is very thick .
Swiss style yogurt
Is made in a large batch and allowed to ferment together and cooled, before putting it into containers. Is used in desert recipes.
Is made by straining the water from milk prior to fermenting. This type of yogurt is very thick and high in protein. Greek yogurt is best in recipes that require cooking.
Traditional In-Strained Yogurt
Is made with lactobacillus bulgaricus/streptococcus thermophilus cultures, is unstrained and has a tangy taste.
GOAT MILK YOGURT
Is made from whole goat milk, has soft texture and a sweet and salty flavor. It’s low in and high in fat.
SHEEP MILK YOGURT
Is made from sheep milk and is high in calcium and protein. It’s great for cooking because it doesn’t breakdown in high temperatures.
SKYR (ICELANDIC) YOGURT
Is made from skim milk and live active cultures. It’s very thick and requires 4 times the milk as other yogurts.
Is an unstrained yogurt made with whole milk. It has a creamy texture and is often infused with honey.
Is made from soy milk. It’s low in fat,cholesterol and protein.
ALMOND MILK YOGURT
Is made from almond milk. It’s high in: antioxidants, healthy fat, fiber, vitamin E and magnesium.
Is made with coconut milk.
