WHAT IS MOVEMENT THERAPY ?

 
Movement therapy is the use of movement for healing purposes.

 

TYPES OF MOVEMENT THERAPY ?

 

Ideokinesis

Uses imagery to stimulate muscles movement.

 

The Mensendieck System

Is use has both corrective and preventative therapy. Used to reshape, rebuild and revitalize the body. There are more than 200 movement sequences used to help body movement through everyday activities.

 

The Alexander Technique

Uses the hands and verbal directions to guide a person through movements like: sitting, standing up, bending, walking.

 

Eastern Movement Therapies

Therapies include: yoga, t’ai chi, qigong and used for healing/ preventing: physical disorders, emotional stability, spiritual awareness.

 

Equine-Assisted Therapy

Uses horses to help a person heal from issues such as: physical limitation, psychological problems, learning disabilities, low self-esteem.

 

Continuum Movement

Therapy includes the use of sound, breath and movements to stimulate the brain for proper body movement.

 

Body-Mind Centering (BMC)

Uses movement, touch, guided imagery, dialogue, music and other props.

 

Kinetic Awareness

Uses rubber balls of different sizes to focus attention, support body and massage to helps with chronic pain, improved movement, increase energy, flexibility, coordination.

 

Gerda Alexander Eutony (GAE)

Through this one a person can master self-sensing becoming sensitive to the external environment.

 

Sensory Awareness (SA)

In this therapy a person becomes aware of the sensations involved in every movement.

 

Pilates

Consists of over 500 movement to help promote strength, flexibility, and balance in the body.

 

WATSU

Is a relaxing aquatic therapy which incorporates things like: stretching, acupressure and massage. Its used to help treat: anxiety, pain, reduce stress, injuries, insomnia, increase range of motion, improve healing,boost immune system responses.
