WHAT IS CANNING
Canning is a method of preserving, by storing it in containers that are hermetically sealed and sterilized by heat. Canning is a safe method of preserving food if practiced properly. The canning involves putting foods in jars and heating them to a temperature that destroys micro-organisms.
TYPES OF CANNING
Low Acid foods that contain a pH of 4.6 or higher. Like Vegetables, meats, dried beans and all soups are low acid foods. High Acid foods contain a pH level of 4.6 or lower. Like fruits, fruit products, jams, jellies and apple butter.
There are two safe ways of canning food. The first is the boiling water bath method and the second is the pressure canner method. Do your research and learn how to can the foods properly. Safe canning is always the best. You want all your hard work of growing and saving your food to count .
